I haven’t posted about my Smallville or Tom Welling since the new shows started. I’m just not feeling good and don’t feel like doing anything but gestate. I can barely function and take care of the kids let alone write my little 2 cents on Smallville.
So here’s just a quick recap of the shows. Spoilers are within all.
Fanatic: Summary: A campaign worker of Lex goes crazy and takes things into her own hands trying to help him win the Senate election.
I think this was the first episode back from Xmas holidays. I was just so happy to see Tom in a new episode my eyes just fixated on him the entire time. Even when another character was in focus I just stared at him. I don’t think I even really followed what the episode was about on Wednesday night. I gave it a 5 out of 5 just cuz Tom was back and I was happy to see him. I watched it again on Monday night. *sigh* This time I watched it for the story line. It was ok. Nothing that great. I liked the special effects of Clark super speeding to catch the bullet before it hit his dad. 2 out of 5.
Lockdown: Summary: A couple of ex-policeman who saw the spaceship attempt to kidnap Lex and Lana in their attempts to find the space craft. The Sheriff gets shot. Clark saves the day.
I did not like this episode at all. I thought it sucked. The Sheriff dying was again a terrible acting session and I was annoyed they whacked her. I liked the Sheriff. This was just campy and had so many things that annoyed me. I don’t even want to go into it because it will make me annoyed all over again. 1 out of 5. I’m being generous.
Reckoning: Summary: Clark tells Lana his secret in the Fortress of Solitude. He proposes to her. She says yes. She gets into a car crash and dies. Clark runs back to Jor-El begging him to save her so the writers are pathetic and cop out… Clark gets a do-over. Jor-El warns him someone else will die instead. Same day all over again. This time Clark doesn’t tell Lana. She gets pissed and breaks up with him. She avoids the car accident because Clark slows down the bus. This time Daddy Kent dies of heart failure after arguing and fighting with Lionel Luthor.
*BIG HUGE FREAKN’ SIGH*
The first 1/2 hour kicked ass. The last 1/2 hour sucked ass. Ok. I was lovn’ the first 1/2…. finally, finally, finally Clark is honest and tells Lana.

I loved how he scooped her up in his arms and jumped to another ice crystal in the Fortress. Then he makes a diamond out of coal and puts it into a ring right in front of her.

THEN he proposes to her!!! WOW! Now THAT is a proposal. I was teary eyed. I was swooning.

How sweet. The only problem I had with it was I thought the time in the fortress should have been longer. You’d think she would ask a billion questions and make him show her all of his abilities and they’d have this huge long conversation, etc. I wanted that, but due to time constraints and the stupid script that was not part of it.
Their day goes on, she tells him yes and they are all lovey dovey over. Awww, how sweet. Jonathan wins the election. Lex calls Lana on her cell. Now for some stupid reason she goes and sees Lex. Why? I’d say, geez that sucks, I’ll see you tomorrow I’m celebrating with Clark. But whatever, she goes to the mansion to offer comfort and consolidation to Lex for losing. Now I must say Michael Rosenbaum is a great actor. I love all his scenes. He makes every scene just magnificent.
Lex realizes that Lana is engaged to Clark and he freaks out. He demands her to tell him Clark’s secret. She leaves, he chases her in his car, a bus comes along and smokes the livin’ piss out of her SUV. It rolls, she flies out and is killed instantly. WOW!!!! I was on the edge of my seat. It was a great rollover. Fabulous! Fabulous! I was on pins and needles waiting to see what would happen next. Nothing can go wrong right? Great script, great action, great scenes so far! I’m ecstatic! FINALLY a GOOD Smallville episode! 5 out of 5 so far!!!
*sigh* Unfortunately good things come to an end so quickly. The writers then let blind, deaf and stupid monkeys come in a write the last half of this episode. This is why I like Prison Break much better than Smallville now. At least with Prison Break I’m guaranteed a good episode all the way through.
Clark goes back sobbing his eyes out to Jor-El. Jor-El warns him that fate will take someone else close to Clark if Lana doesn’t die in exchange for his life. So he gets a do-over. *ARRRRRRRRRG* NO, NO, NO, NO, NO!!!! There should be NO do-overs. That’s a writing cop out! That’s like waking up from a dream. It’s just a cheap and pathetic attempt at writing!!! I was PISSED! I sat there shaking my head and fuming. Steam was coming out of my ears. What a joke.
So Clark lives the day all over except he doesn’t tell Lana. She gets pissy, breaks up with him and refuses to speak to him the entire episode. Fine whatever. Clark saves Lois from electrocution. Jonathan wins the election. Lana still goes to see Lex. This time Lex plants a big smooch on her. She gets pissy and leaves. He follows in his car. Clark super speeds to slow down the bus smashes into Lana the first time. He saves her life. Jonathan meets Lionel in the barn. Lionel has a nasty pic of Jonathan doing I don’t know what. Jonathan flips out. Punches Lionel, has a coronary, stumbles out of the barn and dies in Clark’s arms.
ok… So WHY oh WHY don’t they see Lionel’s car? OR hear him leave?
Now I don’t know why Clark doesn’t super speed his dad to the hospital or do something. Instead we cut to a scene of Clark and Martha preparing to go to the funeral. Ya know, this scene seemed so shallow and insincere. I wasn’t sad at all. It didn’t make me sad, although it tried. I was still pissed an annoyed. The exterior shots of the farm didn’t make me sad either. The funeral didn’t make me sad. Everything seemed hollow, rushed and unmoving.
I hated it. 0 out of 5 for the 2nd half. I HATE do-overs. The writers could have done better, much better. They failed miserably. I’m still angry over that episode. I feel robbed of a good episode. These writers need to be fired. They are not smarts and obviously not creative enough to think of a better plot.

I did like Clark and Lana holding hands and the fingers letting go of each other. That was a nice shot.
Vengeance: Summary: Clark is sad and mad about his fathers death. Martha Kent is assaulted in Metropolis and Jonathan’s watch is stolen. She is saved by a Batman/Catwoman(Maya) type of super hero. Clark tracks her down. Maya starts to kill the people that killed her mother. Maya goes to kill Lionel. Clark saves his life. He realizes that killing people will not bring his father back and he needs to deal with the death of his father. Lana looks in all the pawn shops until she finds Papa Kents watch. Clark wears it and has a touching moment with his mother.
I thought this episode was going to suck. It was surprisingly good. ok… the Batman/Catwoman chick could use a few more acting lessons. Some of those scenes were campy and poorly acted, but there were some amazing moments that just made the show for me.
The first was the beginning where Clark is fixing the tractor. He’s angry, withdrawn and trying to deal with everything his father use to do. I loved the scene between Lana and Clark. FINALLY he tells her to leave him alone. You can see it on his face that he is hurt and pissed off. To have exchanged Lana’s life for his father’s must just be gut wrenching.

I loved the scene between Chloe and Clark when he was pretending to mug her so the Avenging Angel would come to save Chloe. Clark rips off his mask and OMG!!! He looks so HOT! His haired all messed up. Wow! I almost had a cerebral overload. Yum!
Every scene between Lex and Lionel. Just amazing! I love these 2 actors. Every scene is brilliant, full of tension, well written and delivered perfectly. Just great acting!
The other scene I liked was towards the end when Maya/Batman says, “What would you do if you were face to face with your father’s killer?” It was ironic because Clark was. Lionel put Jonathan over the edge and in a way killed Jonathan.
The clincher that sealed the deal for me was when Martha was watching home video’s of Jonathan and Clark as a boy riding the tractor. Clark walks in and begins to cry as he watches his father say goodbye to the camera. Martha and Clark embrace as Clark breaks down sobbing on his mother’s shoulder. I was crying. It was such a touching scene. The lighting was beautiful, the acting was bang on and it was well written. Heart wrenching and tear jerking ending. Loved the end.

Then I watched it the second time on Monday… this time as the camera pans back and you see Martha and Clark embracing from a distance you see Martha standing on a box…. HAHAHAHAHA!!! My tears turned into laughter. HILARIOUS!!! Tom is 6′3, Annette is probably 5′4. So she’s standing on a box so he doesn’t have to bend down so far. Oh funny! I’ve tried to find a pic of it, but I can’t. Ah well.
Well, despite the few things I liked this episode still only gets a 3 out of 5.
