The last 3 days 3 weeks ago..
Not much new and exciting happened. I took the kids plus Laura’s friend Rachel to the Science centre on Thursday, they had fun. I love going to the Science centre, because it is contained, my kids run around and they know where to find me if they need to. It was packed on Thursday, I could barely find parking. Man, summer sucks there! I’ve never seen it that bad before. I can’t wait until the new location opens up in 2011 by the zoo. Then we can do 1/2 day at the zoo and 1/2 day at the science centre. ooohhh… I wish they’d hurry up and make it by 2009.
Friday I took the kids to the dentist. Laura needs braces… they call it preventative braces… I wonder if it also means, aka.. “cash cow”. The orthodontists was like, “Yes, she does need braces, her teeth are not too bad, but it’s better to catch these things early and prevent them… I felt like I was sitting with a salesman giving me a sales pitch, but it would cost me a lot more…ARG…
Josh was all excited to get his cavities out. He had a couple in the back between his teeth. He was so brave in the chair and didn’t say anything. When he came out to me in the waiting room he began to cry cuz he said his mouth hurt and he couldn’t move his lips… I told him if he brushed better he wouldn’t get any cavities.. ya.. I’m so compassionate… Well, he cried for a good 1/2 hour. We had to wait until Laura was done her dentist appointment. Poor kid. When we got home, he forgot all about his pain and took off to play.
Saturday we took the kids to see the Gatti circus… we had the free kids tickets and a 2 for 1 coupons for Ryan and I. This was the first time I went to the circus and it was ok, but it wasn’t that great. I felt I was sitting through a long sales pitch, “now boys and girls tell your parents you want one of these glow in the dark swords” or “pick up your limited edition coloring book” or “the snow cone cup lights up! You must have one.” Holy freak! I couldn’t believe it. I told my kids that we were not going to buy any thing like that especially when I can go to the loonie store and buy it for a $1. I think they made a killing on the whole event. Even though they had free tickets, we had to pay for me $22, then we paid for parking $4, then we broke down and bought a couple bags of popcorn $7. I don’t know how much all those other things cost that they were selling but man, they sure put the pressure on… in between every act it was a sales pitch about buying this or that… even to ride on the elephant cost $10 EACH!!! The small ponies were $8 each. Yikes!
The most amazing stunt happened in the very last act of the show. It was the 3 dirt bike riders in the round cage racing around each other. That was amazing. Ryan said he would pay double if one of them crashed… so would I… THAT would have been worth the price of admission… but alas, no crashes…
I felt sorry for the horses and the elephants… I dunno… I just think those animals belong on a field somewhere, not in a ring. They looked sad too… poor animals…
The performers always had their backs to us for the majority of the show… so if you plan on going to the circus sit on the south side not on the north side. The magician was alright… nothing too spectacular. The girls that twirled in the rings or ropes were pretty amazing as well. They must have a lot of upper body strength to scoot themselves up there. The clown was annoying and not all that funny. It was ok… Would I want to go again? NO! Laura and Josh liked it. Luke, Mya and Brandon were bored out of their minds. It was too noisy for them and they wanted to leave.
I didn’t enjoy it that much cuz I kept having to stop Luke from trying to pull the kids hair that were sitting in front of us. The kids kept bouncy their chairs and having more fun bouncing on the chairs instead of watching the show. This circus could be so much better… they need to turn down the music.. they blare the music so loud I feel like I’m going to a rock concert.. it’s like they are over compensating for their sucky show. A sucky show is a sucky show no matter if you turn the music up or not.
We went home, dumped the kids off with a babysitter then headed over to the taste of Calgary at Eau Claire Mall. It was fun! I loved going around and trying different stuff. The international hotel restaurant was one I would like to go for a sit down meal. They had a couple of yummy things… the ocean salad and the cheesecake lollipop. Yum. We had Greek food from Pegasus. It was ok… not that great. Ryan had oysters. I didn’t, but he liked them. We had sushi, but I didn’t like the sushi I got, so I spit out the salmon in the garbage can. I normally like sushi, but not from this place. We got free candies for waiting in line, we got Chinese food and other stuff… It was all yummy and quite the experience. I would like to go again next year. The place was packed! Next time we’ll try to go during the week.
After we hustled over to Chinook Mall and watched the Bourne Ultimatum.. Oh my goodness! I LOVE this show! So amazing. Matt Damon rocks! I love this movie series. It’s sooo good! We had to wait in this crazy long line up before the show started… we were far back at first we felt sorry for ourselves cuz we were not their sooner, but the line grew and went all the way out the door! Then we began to feel better as time moved on…
One guy comes up to us and says, “Is this the line for The Bourne Ultimatum?”
Yes, I reply.
“Oh good, I just wanted to make sure I wasn’t lining up for “Underdog” or anything like that.”
LOL….
A couple minutes pass and a lady comes up to us again and asks, “What are you lining up for?”
Before I could answer the guy that made the smart quip earlier quickly pipes up and says, “The bathroom. We’re all here to use the bathroom.”
This little old lady looked all perplexed… so funny. I love funny people. They make me happy.
So we had an enjoyable Saturday. Funner than a barrel of snakes.
